Students learned about the importance of science and technology in our society and how we use these two studies in everything that we do.

What is science? Students discussed what they consider to be science. They learned how creativity is a big part of science, which is a field usually thought to be very structured.


Students discusses science and technology related jobs and the importance of these jobs in the future of our society.
Students heard from onocologist Amy Kinsey about how she became interested in science. They learned about the importance of girls in STEM careers, as well as the stereotypes that often hold girls back in these fields.
Students learned about binary, what it is, and how it works. They learned about the binary alphabet and practiced writing in binary by making bracelets that spelled out their initials. The activitiy and instructions cam be found here.
Students learned about chemistry and the kinds of experiments that chemists get to do. They then learned about two acid and base reaction.They first watched the reaction of baking soda and vinegar blow up a balloon. Instructions for this activity can be found here.

Then, in pairs, students got to react lemon juice with baking soda and watch foaming bubbles pour out of their lemons. The instructions and explanation for this activity can be found here.
Students worked in teams to guess what some different kinds of sciences were.
